FOSS4G 2022 in “La Bella” – Greetings from Florence!

After the cancellation of the FOSS4G in Calgary in 2020 due to Corona and the online FOSS4G conference from Buenos Aires in 2021, this year’s FOSS4G conference will finally take place again in presence and, after Bucharest 2019, again in Europe. The organising city of Florence on the Arno, nicknamed “La Bella” in Italy, also has a lot to offer in terms of tourism. Located in the heart of Tuscany, it is of course the culinary stronghold of the region. But Tuscany also has a rich history; over the past centuries, it has been home to greats such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Galileo – and this year, the prominent members of the OSGeo community. Florence, Italy’s eighth largest city, was recently named one of the most beautiful cities in the world by Forbes magazine – “La Bella”.

The conference will take place between the 22nd and 28th of August and traditionally starts with 2 workshop days before the actual core conference. A Code Sprint will follow the Core Conference on the Saturday. The extensive programme of the core conference offers parallel lectures in 7 rooms and an online channel. The main topics “Transition to FOSS4G”, “State of Software”, “Use cases & applications”, “Open Data” and “Education” provide orientation for visitors, as each presentation is assigned to one of these topics. We from mundialis will also be represented at the conference with these contributions:

The academic track also includes the following contribution: OSGeo, Persistent Identifiers and the shape of things to come / Room 4 / 25.08. / 10:10 / Markus Neteler & Peter Löwe

One innovation that will probably remain thanks to Corona is the possibility to participate in the conference both on-site and online. If you want to save time and money, you can participate online, but you will miss the legendary atmosphere at the conference itself. So follow us, we look forward to welcoming you on site – off to Florence!
