MOOD Scientific Conference and General Assembly
From 28 – 29 June 2023, mundialis participated in the annual General Assembly of the MOOD project in Helsinki. The MOOD H2020 project (MOnitoring Outbreak events for Disease surveillance in a data science context) is an EU project within the framework of OneHealth. mundialis is involved in the project as a data provider of relevant covariates for modelling the MOOD model diseases. Preceding the General Assembly, the project’s annual scientific conference was held on 27 June. Both events were hosted by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
At the information-packed scientific conference on Tuesday 27 June, twelve experts presented a range of topics in the context of OneHealth. This was followed by innovative and fruitful discussions on the key issues driving innovation in this field. The conference was attended by about 90 scientists and policy makers.
At the end of this exciting day, the conference participants were invited to an authentic Finnish dinner at Ravintola Saaristo on a small island (skerry) at the coast of the city. Policy makers, veterinarians, data scientists and other experts from the OneHealth sector ended the day in a relaxed atmosphere and with a delicious menu.

On Wednesday 28 June, the first day of the General Assembly, end-users from public health and animal health authorities were invited to get to know and test the second version of the MOOD Epidemic Intelligence Platform. The focus was on the modules “Data and Covariate Access” and “Event-based Surveillance System data“, consisting of the visualisation tool „Epid Data Explorer“ (EDE) and the text mining tool “Padi-web”. The functionalities of these modules were presented by the MOOD developers from AVIA-GIS, LIRMM and INRAE as well as CIRAD. Afterwards, the modules were extensively tested in separate sessions and feedback was collected, which will be incorporated into the further development of the modules.
