Tree detection: solutions for municipalities and other property owners

Individual tree locations and their changes are of central importance for issues of green infrastructure, traffic safety and climate. Municipalities, authorities, the German armed forces, zoological gardens, parks, hospitals and universities, as property owners, have a high interest in accurate and up-to-date data.

mundialis offers an innovative solution for the automated collection of individual tree data with various parameters such as trunk position, height, crown diameter, crown volume, crown area, tree health status, distance to buildings and neighbouring trees as well as conifer or deciduous tree differentiation. The accuracy of the data is also estimated and a change analysis is optionally possible. Tree detection is based on machine learning using LiDAR point clouds, high-resolution orthophotos, vegetation indices and Sentinel-2 time series. Machine learning enables precise detection of all relevant parameters and accuracy assessments.

The aim is to provide a uniform, area-wide database on the tree population as a basis for tree cadastres, but also for climate relief indicators and planning recommendations for adaptation to climate change.

Areas of application of our service include

  • Urban planning
  • Inspections and measures within the framework of the legal obligation to ensure traffic safety (railways, footpaths, etc.)
  • Forest inventories
