Want to know more about EO-li?
The “Earth Observation Location Identifier (EO-li)”, supported by the European Space Agency (ESA), is a service platform which tackles the question of restoration in its large sens and its positive spin offs related to the issue of food security (SDG-2), creating sustainable jobs (SDG-8), Land Degradation Neutrality (SDG-15), empowering communities in technologies (SDG-17) and accelerating other conventions on climate change (e.g. REDD+) among others.
The EO-li platform is accessible through the Internet, empowered by Geo web-mapping and remote sensing technologies. The Service Platform will be built using Open Source Software and sustainable fair business case.
The implementation of a restoration project will be using a system of four service components: (1) by identifying the areas to restore, (2) by connecting the different stake-holders via a market place, (3) by monitoring the progress of the implemented restoration projects and reporting on it (4) by raising awareness, strengthening capacities and technology transfer.
All geographically connected, allowing transparency on the different aspects of a restoration project and facilitating the traceability, the platform will help the reporting process on the various conventions and foster the release of the quantitative and qualitative incentives (carbon offsets, certification of products, product value, credits, environmental services, etc.).
