Temperature Data


Measuring temperature from space – in unprecedented quality!

The mundialis Land Surface Temperature Data (LST) provides the surface temperatures in an unprecedented accuracy and combination of spatial (1 km) and temporal (4 times daily) resolution. This makes it possible to determine the exact temperature at any place in the world several times a day. The algorithms for this were developed by mundialis and the University of Twente (publication can be found here).

Applications

Temperature regulates many biological and ecological processes (e. g. perspiration, biomass accumulation and ultimately also harvesting). LST data can therefore be used to support a wide range of applications.

Snapshot of our LST-Client

  • Analysis of land surface temperatures at regional and global level
  • Identification of heat islands in urban areas
  • Applications in agricultural monitoring (biomass and crop modelling, plant growth prognosis, plant stress)
  • Spatially consistent data in regions with low density of weather stations

You can download our temperature data here:

  • dataset: Global reconstructed monthly MODIS Land Surface Temperature data (2003-2016)
  • data source: NASA global MODIS LST products MOD11C1/MYD11C1, aggregated to monthly data
  • spatial resolution of 3 arc-min (approximately 5.6 km at the equator)
  • format: GeoTIFF
