FOSS4G 2018 publishes the main conference program
This year’s FOSS4G 2018 will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from August 27th 2018 to September 2nd. The program of an annual FOSS4G is mainly designed by the community itself, in combination with a community voting. The program committee of the D-LOC (Dar es Salaam Local Organising Committee) has now published the program early before the conference.
We are pleased that our contribution to the conference has been accepted by the Program Committee. Till Adams will report on new developments from mundialis in his presentation “actinia Open Source – geoprocessing in the cloud” at the end of August. With its actinia computing platform, mundialis offers a real-time solution for processing large amounts of geodata. The demand for processing large quantities of Earth Observation (EO) and geodata is constantly increasing, which has consequences for software and hardware. With actinia, mundialis provides a cloud-based computing platform that processes such data quickly, reliably and in high quality for individual questions.
During the submission a special focus was placed on the local conditions in southern Africa. In general, we see an opportunity for the entire region in the use of open source and the associated knowledge development. The already rather poor network coverage in many parts of Africa means that downloading large amounts of data is often not possible due to the poor connection. We want to contribute to this goal with actinia.
The diverse programme, which also includes contributions from many local speakers, can be found here. If you are planning to visit FOSS4G, the best thing to do is to get your tickets today! The Early Bird Phase has been extended, discounted tickets can still be purchased here until June 5th 2018.
We are looking forward to meeting some of you in Dar es Salaam in August.
